SFLQT CH 24

My sleep schedule is all messed up. I also wanted to make up for the lack of updates. Remote learning for two kids is kicking my ass.

I don’t know if having all my commentary at the end of the chapter or through out the chapter would be better, that I wound up with a mix. I may change it up once I comb over this chapter with a fine-tooth comb. I was just trying to bang it out quickly. Please let me know of any mistakes!

Seems like another long chapter, maybe it’s just because I haven’t gotten used to it?

Thank you all for your kind comments of support and feedback!

Heavenly Road Entertainment Company.

Su Nuo went straight to Wu Manni’s office, knocking on the door then entering. She was currently facing the floor to ceiling windows, talking to someone. After giving Su Nuo a glance of acknowledgement, she continued to flatter the investors with a soft voice on the other side of the call.

Su Nuo stood silently at attention in front of the desk, without interrupting.

Five minutes later, Wu Manni hung up the call and turned around. Her smile was immediately disengaged in an instant, changing her entire face.

“Your legs fine?” Wu Manni had heard the rumors, so coldly asked perfunctorily.

Su Nuo was too lazy to bother going through the motions of civility with her and cut straight to the main subject, “I came today to cancel the contract with the company.”

Wu Manni’s eyebrows twitched, she seemed a little surprised.

“You want to cancel.”

Su Nuo, expressionlessly, “This prestigious company is very good, but it doesn’t suit me.”

Wu Manni jeered audibly, leaning forward, “You better have considered everything well, Su Nuo. Without the Shen family’s support, leaving Heavenly Road means no other company is willing to have you.”

She stayed mute, almost as if tacitly agreeing.

You signed a three-year contract with the company and there are two years remaining. According to the contract, the artist must pay the company an equivalent penalty fee in advance to terminate the contract. In addition, you have not earned the stipulated mandatory profits for the company. So this aspect also requires compensation for the loss to the company. “

Sounds like there was a quota for her to meet in terms of minimum endorsements or jobs, etc.

“I know.” Su Nuo’s voice was steady, “I have already brought the penalty fee. If it is convenient, let’s sign the termination agreement today.”

Wu Manni stumbled.

She tapped her fingers, finally picking up the phone, “Human Resources Department, contact Legal to process Miss Su Nuo’s termination agreement. Yes, right now.”

Pa-da.

This is generally used as the sound for a door closing I noticed.

Wu Manni put back the phone, slightly tilted her head and smiled, “Su Nuo, do you hate me for not giving you resources?”

Su Nuo pursed her lips and looked directly at her, “I don’t hate any person.”

I feel that she really means this as the multiple quick transmigration really ground and polished her into a very emotionless person, no longer caring about most things. It’s both sad and pitiable, though currently beneficial to our heroine.

She leaned back against the chair, “In places like the entertainment industry, the strong survive and the weak die. Profit dictates all matters. To be honest, you have good potential, but it’s a pity that you were born in the same era as Meng Yiran.”

Meng Yiran is already an evergreen tree standing tall in the entertainment circle, becoming the big wall in front blocking off all the little flowers. Any female artist who is popular or about to become popular is always compared to Meng Yiran. Some people are naturally unwilling, yet there are some people that utilize the moniker of “Little Meng Yiran” to siphon off hype and draw attention or traffic.

Su Nuo and Meng Yiran debuted together, even acting in the same movie. She even played the leading actress with the most screen time in the movie. And what was the result? Completely ordinary and without making any fanfare, she was wholly crushed by Meng Yiran with a mere ten minutes of screen time. Then even later, her true birth identity was revealed, she was abandoned by her childhood sweetheart and fiancee, the spectacle of her attempted suicide was her biggest accomplishment since her debut. The always upright standing pure high class lady of a little miss suddenly fell off the pedestal, becoming a obsessive stalker degenerate and paranoid fallen woman.*

*私生 was used here and I believe that is equivalent to the Korean saseang. Su Nuo was acting like that towards Shen Wang, admittedly. This idiom (残花败柳) was also used, implied meaning of immoral woman that lost value and chastity, literally a wilted willow flower. This admittedly does seem to describe Su Nuo to a tee, pre quick transmigration.

Now look at Meng Yiran, good acting and beautiful looks, a straightforward temperament, daring to love and daring to hate. Naturally and thusly, she stepped on Su Nuo to fly soaring into the sky.

Wu Manni said it right, she really was born in the wrong era, but the wrong one wasn’t her.

“Thank you Manager Wu for your concern.” Su Nuo’s lips pulled at the corners, a burning light radiated from within the depths of her eyes, “When I become popular in the future, I definitely won’t forget your repeated teachings.”

Wu Manni was first momentarily stunned, then immediately laughed, “Shameless boasting.”

Idiom, 大言不惭, was used here and it literally means Big Words, No Shame.

At this time, the Legal Department already finished drafting the termination agreement, Su Nuo had pen in hand signing her name, paid the compensation, and holding her bag, turned around without looking back.

She stood waiting in front of the elevator doors, only thinking of leaving this place immediately. Her heart had an indescribable joy surge up suddenly, almost as if shackles had fallen free and she can become her true self from now on.

While waiting, someone strode to Su Nuo’s side.

She peeked with the corner of her eyes.

A female with long legs, perky butt, elegant figure, her fragrance lingering in the air. Then seeing her brow and eyes that were lush and gorgeous like a bountiful flower of earth.*

Idiom (人间富贵花) was used to describe and literally translate to earthly, rich flower. You can think of it as there are people with a cold, ethereal “jade” like beauty, almost as if they are immortal. Then there are people that have a very lush, warm, seductive beauty that speaks of the flesh, more carnal in nature. This is what this idiom means.

— Meng Yiran

Su Nuo retracted her gaze.

In the novel, Meng Yiran was still a famous actor in her past life, also becoming a popular Film Empress. Then she was targeted and her appearance ruined. Not long after, she transmigrated into this world. The strong female Meng Yiran disdained the dodder flower-like white bloom her. She repeatedly insisting that she would not affect the plot and go against the female protagonist. In the end, she still wound up endlessly impacting her.

If you are not seeing this on hongbaihe.net, this is a stolen translation Please do not repost without permission!! Please support the original translator by viewing it at the source!

As the transmigrated heroine, Meng Yiran naturally has golden fingers, which is the system. The mission tasked by the system is to collect charm value. The more men that like her, the more her charm value rises and the more her popularity also increases. In order to return to her original world, Meng Yiran was wholeheartedly willing to become the king of the sea.* Only until the end did she discover that her true love all along was Shen Wang. She willingly relinquished her mission to marry Shen Wang as his wife, from then on living happily ever after.

Remember that Meng Yiran was described this way before in a previous chapter when Shen Wang was going over mentally his current relationship with Meng Yiran? And barf about the happily ever after. Sounds like a stupid novel, the woman give up to be happy with a man.

At this moment, Meng Yiran had also noticed Su Nuo. Her fox bright eyes sweeping over a glance. Lightly chuckling, she entered the wide open elevator.

Su Nuo held her bag, following after inside.

“Shen Wang?”

The sound of Meng Yiran’s charming voice trickled in to her ears.

Su Nuo looked up. A mask-wearing Shen Wang, one hand in pocket, was standing still and quiet in the corner.

This is him trying to teach you a lesson, following your advice. Rock meet foot!

He never would have thought that he would bump into Meng Yiran and Su Nuo here. After a hint of peculiarity rose from the depth of his eyes, he wouldn’t speak furthermore.

“Are you sick?” Meng Yiran questioned him, head tilted.

Shen Wang already didn’t want to have too much contact with Meng Yiran, this multiple flower pollinating butterfly.* However once she leaned in, he couldn’t help but respond, “No.”

I added the pollination part because it was implied. Shen Wang is the perfect example of a guy with extreme standards. He will never meet the girl that fits his criteria, completely unrealistic expectations.

“Then what’s with wearing the mask?”

He glanced towards Su Nuo, giving a cold humph, “A stray cat hurt me.”

Meng Yiran peered and peered at Su Nuo, then peered and peered at Shen Wang. Suddenly understanding clearly, she raised an eyebrow, chuckling, “Is it convenient to show me a sec?”

She just seems like a nosy biatch right now. Is it really any of your business? Jeezus f-ing Christ.

Shen Wang reflexively guarded his face mask.

However, her movements were even faster and she directly pulled off the face mask. On Shen Wang’s handsome face, the end of his nose was a marked red, appearing almost like an alcoholic’s nose.

A muffled snort sounded. Meng Yiran smiled.

“Pretty cute.”

If someone else had said this, there would be a sense of mockery. Yet she is good looking with eyes that charm and intoxicate paired with a delicately tender voice, so when one hears this, one feels oddly happy.

If things were as before, Shen Wang would be mysteriously and uncontrollably drawn to Meng Yiran again. However currently, every bit of his attention was upon Su Nuo. From beginning till end, his gaze unwaveringly chased Su Nuo’s figure.

You missed that boat, buddy.

Su Nuo huddled in the corner, small and petite. Her hair tied up, a few loose strands of hair broke free, trailing along her neck. Her white ears stood out against that black curtain, eye-blindingly white. Letting Shen Wang be reminded of the image he saw that day.

Su Nuo’s back facing him, the line of her back smooth and graceful. Kiss marks like red ink, spotted and dotted all over.

Bubbling.*

This literally translates to gas or air but then it loses meaning in context. There is implication of fury or anger since it’s common to think of your stomach being full of angry air in Chinese and you are trying to repress it.

Uncontrollably bubbling up.

Shen Wang averted his gaze, fixedly watching the elevator floor indicator drop.

Suddenly, a rumbling noise roared underfoot, the overhead lights flickered, before falling into darkness.

Su Nuo used the hand rail as support to kneel down, to prevent being hurt a second time from a fall. Then she fished out her cell phone with one hand, opening the phone’s flashlight function. The narrow elevator car regained light.

After verifying that the elevator wouldn’t move, Su Nuo rose and pressed the emergency call button.

“Hello.” A voice transmitted through.

Su Nuo, unruffled and calmly, ” The elevator in T2 has failed, we are trapped in between the fifth and sixth floors.”

“Please advise how many people are inside.”

“Three people.”

“Alright. Please be patient and remain calm. We will immediately contact the engineer to troubleshoot the issue. Before this occurs, would the passengers please refrain from moving needlessly.”

She made a sound of acknowledgement (un). She turned her gaze, only to find an ashen white-faced Meng Yiran fallen upon the floor. After thinking that she must suffer from claustrophobia, Su Nuo then added, “We have a person here that isn’t feeling well, hoping that things can go quicker.”

“Please settle down the patient. We will investigate immediately.”

She crouched down again and once more shrunk into herself to reduce her presence.

Shen Wang observed her, with some surprise. Since youth, Su Nuo was afraid of the dark. When they were young, Su Nuo always stuck to him like glue in power outages. When would she ever be so calm and collected like this. While he was in deep reflection, the floor bound Meng Yiran was breathing more rapidly.

“Shen-, Shen Wang, I’m feeling so unwell.” She had a death-grip on Shen Wang’s pant leg.

Shen Wang slowly crouched down, reaching out to brace her, “Are you feeling alright?”

Meng Yiran desperately shook her head, teardrops endlessly falling, “I’m afraid, I-, I’m so afraid.” He was unused to comforting, his cold clear voice full of awkwardness.

Ironic that she is useless yet she is being catered to but this was Shen Wang’s complaint about Su Nuo. Goddamned hypocrite. Su Nuo is also being very nice and non-judgmental too towards her enemy.

Her face was ashen and she was shuddering all over.

Shen Wang frowned, his palms stiffly patting her back, “Don’t be afraid, we will be out soon.”

Su Nuo held her cheek with one hand, quietly looking at the scene in front of her. Finally unable to refrain anymore, a disdainful laugh was let out.

Author’s Note:

Very quick and rough translation as she kind of goes on a rant but she does say some important things to clarify her views.

Su Nuo: Quietly watching you play pretend.

Reading this comment made me laugh, oh. The female protagonist and male lead having relations is not practicing self esteem, to sleep together on the first night. Then I thought, in this society, men dating around means that they are experienced; women on the first date means no self esteem, fallen woman, broken shoe. What the? Women don’t deserve to have a sex life? Women don’t have physiological needs? Big sis, it’s already year 9102.* The female protagonist doesn’t rob, kill, or sell.** As a single person, doesn’t go outside the track or mess around, the other party has a good personality and is handsome. You’re feeling it, I’m willing, things progressed to their natural end*** and what of sleeping once? Once it gets to you, it becomes not practicing self love and respect. ****Then if you read my past R-18 novels, wouldn’t you anger your head off?

Yes, this was one big paragraph. Author got pissed and was ranting! *Author is referring to 2019, apparently one would flip it backwards in order to further emphasize the amount of time that has passed. **Implying prostitution or hooking. ***She then uses an idiom (水到渠成) that translates into the water flows into the canal. ****She uses NP here, which apparently is a shorthand way of saying R-18 or harem, etc.

Completely ridiculous.

(Literally: laugh myself to death)

Don’t ask who the male lead is anymore, the male lead is Shen Wang because he has a lot of drama, and the full text of the work mainly relies on him. However, this doesn’t mean equivalent to the official match, not equal to the official match.

The official match is Zhao Yunqing. His identity is very special and also with many complications. ←, so sleeping first, then loving with the future official match is losing self-esteem? You ah? Why don’t you answer me!

I said that the male lead chasing his spouse won’t win her, it means he won’t win her. To restore a shattered mirror is impossible on my side. Even if you guys want the male lead and female protagonist to get together in the future, I just will not allow them to be together.

TL Notes:

Ugh, Wu Manni is such a biased bitch, so cold and two faced. I know industry people are supposed to be like that but her character, ugh. Can tell her complete and utter disdain and lack of respect for Su Nuo. Ugh. She’s so mocking, I can’t wait for Su Nuo to make her eat crow!

The only industry character that I liked was played by Kate McKinnon in the movie Yesterday. She told it straight and said the worst things but it was so hilarious, though the movie itself was only so-so. I loved that line she had about the poisoned chalice.

I love Su Nuo’s absolute confidence here, I’m just like you go girl! Hahaha, she really seems more confident, not arrogant. A lot of female protagonists in Chinese novels are written arrogant. I guess because many confuse arrogance with confidence. Su Nuo was still respectful and polite but didn’t back down or degrade herself here. Love it!

Shen Wang is acting like the obsessive stalker here now. He must have secretly ate it up when Su Nuo was like that and now that she dgaf, he is obsessed. What a frigging asshat.

Glad the author confirmed the official male lead is not Shen Wang, who is just the original male lead. Zhao Yunqing is still a semi unknown factor. I have hopes for him. We haven’t really seen enough of him to make a decision about his character in my opinion.

I read some of the Novel Update reviews and some people MTL the whole book and were criticizing how Shen Wang apparently got done wrong by the author. I guess maybe her Chinese reader comments were why, as you can see from her angry rant… lol…

I also guess from the author’s note that Meng Yiran isn’t really claustrophobic? She must be up to something.

  1. Lol! Thanks for your comments throughout the text, they made me laugh. As usual I have the same opinions as you do. Also, I really appreciate the author’s rant. Why is there still a double standard on women sleeping with men before marriage or having one-night stands? I don’t understand that after all Sheng Wang did, some readers still want Su Nuo to end up with him. What would be the point for the author to have her transmigrate and grow then? I like Zhao Yunqing, his personality. Also, the fact he’s close to her big brother pretty much set him up to be an acceptable choice. Her brother would kill her before accepting Sheng Wang, even if that was her choice. 😆

Thank you so much. I hope you and your family are safe and well. Here in Denmark, little kids will start to go back to school next week (grade 0-5). The others must stay at home.

    1. Oh wow, why are the young kids going back to school? Is it because they feel they are the lowest risk for viral mortality?
I’m glad my comments aren’t too obtrusive.

I will try to keep translating steadily.

This double standard between men and women exists everywhere, even in so called free to do what you want USA. So I am glad the author obviously feels very strongly about it and seems to refuse letting her readers influence how she wants to do the story.

Hopefully, the ending of the story is good, the more recent reviews on this book have been negative. Makes me nervous since I didn’t read ahead. >_<

      1. They think that because most kids don’t get sick they’re not really at risk at getting infected. Which I find mind boggling considering little kids can be asymptomatic patients. They’re limiting the number of kids in classes (not that hard since classes are not crowded here) and imposing distance between them. Great idea but how do you tell a 5 yo to stay 1m away during play time and enforce it? Anyway they put the responsibility on the parents so they decide if they keep the kids home or send them to school.

I think it’s more an economic motive really. They want to “free” the parents so they can can go back to work and the economy is not that affected. This works for the local economy, I’m not sure it makes sense for all the companies that rely on exports with most countries around the world on lockdown.

      2. Yeah, once kids are back in school, adults will be out and about by default. My son is the type to lick stuff and roll around in the ground. It’s already enough that he washes his hands but to ask a 4-5yo to be hygienic constantly? No way.

  2. Thank you for your hard work as always!

I completely agree with the writer that the broken glass can’t be fixed.
When I read that part about the kidnapped incident, it almost angered me to death really!
Like, if you says that the writer did Sheng Wang wronged then I got nothing to say to you,
with that kidnapped incident alone got me like woah he’s a garbage! not even worthy to think about!

and here i am still try to hold it in when they play game together like why though?? Can’t you just let the girl be happy and not getting involved with this trash anymore??. Whew.

Anyway, I hope everything will be gradually better for you and your family!
Here, in my country, it is almost hopeless with how our governments managing things, like literally third world problems. *sighs*

    1. Yeah, I definitely am glad that the author won’t compromise on this point. Like so many authors allow the shitty ML to get with the MC without any groveling or remorse or anything.

I felt that he was garbage too with the kidnapping incident. Meng Yiran is an absolute bitch for just watching her get cut down like that. Su Nuo has been very nice to her, considering Meng Yiran is an almost overt hostile enemy.

If no conflict with Shen Wang, then no story. So haha, I guess author is right to say that Shen Wang is the main lead as the story relies on him. No tension, no drama.

I hope things will slowly get back to normal but there is a forming narrative that things won’t ever get back to normal and covid may even become a seasonal disease? Then there’s other people saying that covid will still linger even in hotter weather. Sigh…

My country is being handled by the head cheese in charge, the big Oompa Loompa is making US like a 3rd world country, things have gone to shit. Only the state governors with decent heads on their shoulders and a beating heart have been the saving grace.

I hope you and yours will remain safe, well, happy and healthy.

Well about that “heroine” she is just straight personage from harem novels which I really hate cause I don’t understand how can you love a lot of men( having them as bed warmers is ok) but please don’t say that it is love . You are insulting the word love by doing that ) at the same time and behave like a white lotus . In short she is a b#$%

  5. Just found this novel today and binge read up to here! Thanks for picking up and translating! Such a good novel, although I feel like it’s a little hard to keep up with how many other characters have transmigrated/reincarnated (it seems like not only our FL has (obvs) but also Meng Yiran (I kind of understand what’s going to with her, but it’s not clear if the FL knows that MY also transmigrated?) and Zhao Yunqing seems to have reincarnated/transmigrated from one of the FLs past lives? (I’m betting he is either the enemy emperor or the emperor who picked her up from the brothel – whichever one it was that liked to watch her drunk, but I’m interested to know *why* he’s so interested in her) Either way, I hope that the author does the story justice and all of the threads make sense in the end, but judging how she’s handled it thus far it seems likely!
Shen Wang is completely unlikable, but there’s something… perversely enjoyable about watching his hypocritical behaviour knowing that however much he changes or atones for his past mistakes he’s not going to get what he wants. That boat has sailed, baby!
Anyway, thanks for translating this story so far! I hope you and your family stay safe!
